AC Not Cooling? A Pensacola Checklist
A few simple checks solve some AC problems and give the technician a head start on the rest.
Request an AC technicianThermostat
Set to cool, below room temperature, fan on auto. Replace weak batteries and wait five minutes after any change.
Breakers and disconnect
Check the panel and the disconnect box outside. Don't keep resetting a breaker that trips again.
Filter
Pull the filter and look. A grey, dusty filter restricts airflow and can freeze the coil.
Ice
If the lines or indoor unit are icy, switch the AC off and run the fan alone to thaw it before trying again.
Water
Water in the pan or around the air handler points to a clogged drain line. A float switch may have shut the system off on purpose.
Outdoor unit
Make sure the fan spins and the unit isn't buried in leaves or grass clippings. A unit that hums without starting needs a technician.
After a storm
If the AC quit after lightning or a power cut, check the breakers. Damaged controls or capacitors need a repair.
Book the repair
See AC repair and send a request with what you've checked.
Keep notes
Write down what the system did, when it started and what you checked. A short list like that helps the technician go straight to the likely fault and can shorten the visit on a busy summer day.
