Checking an AC Contractor License in Florida
Florida licenses air conditioning contractors through the Construction Industry Licensing Board. A quick check protects your home and your warranty.
Request an AC technicianLicense classes
Air conditioning contractors are licensed in classes A, B and C, and can be certified (statewide) or registered (local). The class determines what size of system they can work on.
Look it up
You can check a contractor's license status on the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation website.
Permits
Replacing a system usually needs a permit and inspection. Ask who pulls the permit.
Insurance
Ask for proof of liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage.
Written quote
It should list equipment and model numbers, efficiency ratings, duct work, permit costs and warranty terms.
Deposits
Florida law sets rules for contractors who take large deposits; ask how the deposit will be handled before you pay.
Red flags
Pressure to sign on the spot, cash-only deals, no written quote or someone going door to door after a storm.

See our services and send a request.
Ask about the load calculation
A careful contractor sizes a new system from the house itself: square footage, windows, insulation, shade and duct condition. Someone who simply matches the old unit's size may repeat an old mistake, especially if the house always felt clammy.
Who does the work
Ask whether the licensed contractor's own employees will do the install or whether it will be subcontracted, and who to contact if something goes wrong in the first summer.
After the job
Keep the permit, final inspection, invoice, model and serial numbers and warranty papers together. Register the equipment with the manufacturer if the contractor doesn't, since some warranties depend on it.
